Recycling Take Away Coffee Cups

If a product has this symbol on it – it CAN be recycled

Take away coffee cups CAN NOT be Recycled. The LIDS CAN BE RECYCLED if the have the recyclable logo (shown left) on them but the cup itself has a plastic film inside that can’t be recycled therefore it needs to be put in the bin that goes to landfill.

Some cups are compostable which is better than the non-compostable cups however they can’t go in the recycle bins either. They need to either go in the Compost Bin but if thats not available, it needs to go into the General Waste bin. At least it will biodegrade in the landfill site it ends up at.

Tip: If you care about the environment the best thing to do is to buy a KeepCup or other similar washable coffee cup. These are just like takeaway cups but they are reusable. Most cafes (in fact I haven’t encountered one that doesn’t) will accept you reusable cup and fill it with delicious coffee!! Worth cleaning it before using…
