Orangutans and Palm Oil… We can do something small to help today

International Orangutan Day (Aug 19th 2016) seemed to me to be bigger this year than ever! Maybe it has something to do with the fact the Melbourne Zoo Campaign – DON’T PALM US OFF – has reached its most important stage. After years and years of campaigning to save our closest relative from EXTINCTION, and educating millions of people about the plight of Orangutans and other wildlife effected by deforestation to build unsustainable palm oil plantations, we are approaching the moment (November 2016) where Australian Ministers will decide whether Palm Oil will be labelled on products or not.

At the moment, PALM OIL is labelled as VEGETABLE OIL and therefore we, as consumers, do not know whether the products we put in our shopping trolleys is responsible for the death of over 1000 Orangutans a year or not. If the ministers vote to make manufacturers label whether they use palm oil, we will have a CHOICE as to whether we buy that product or not.

That is as simple as I could make a very complex situation. If you would like to help, right now, and please do, all you need to do is put your name and email address to this online petition – click here HELP ORANGUTANS. The ministers will see how many people really do care!!!
